Formsieve documentation

Formsieve is an AI spam filter for WordPress forms, made by Thinking42 and powered by TypeSafe Jev. It comes as two standalone plugins:

  • Formsieve for Gravity Forms (item title "Formsieve – AI Spam Filter for Gravity Forms")
  • Formsieve for CF7 (item title "Formsieve – AI Spam Filter for CF7 Contact Forms"), for Contact Form 7 Formsieve for Gravity Forms (item title "Formsieve – AI Spam Filter for Gravity Forms") is an AI spam filter for Gravity Forms, made by Thinking42 and powered by TypeSafe Jev. Formsieve for CF7 (item title "Formsieve – AI Spam Filter for CF7 Contact Forms") is an AI spam filter for Contact Form 7 forms, made by Thinking42 and powered by TypeSafe Jev.

What Formsieve does

Each form submission first goes through free local checks: your allow and block lists, a honeypot, a time-to-submit token, a duplicate and replay cache, a per-IP rate limit, disposable e-mail domains, WordPress's Disallowed Comment Keys and a set of heuristics. Only a submission that passes them is sent, once, to TypeSafe's Jev decision model, which returns a calibrated spam probability. Formsieve turns that probability into one of three bands:

  • Allow: delivered normally.
  • Review: delivered and tagged, for example with the subject prefix "[Possible spam 62%]" (or treated as spam, if you prefer).
  • Block (Gravity Forms): the entry is saved and marked as spam, so you can restore it; per form you can instead discard it or refuse it with a validation error.
  • Block (Contact Form 7): the submission gets Contact Form 7's own spam status and no mail is sent; with Flamingo installed it is kept in Flamingo's Spam folder, so you can restore it.

Every decision is explained on the entry (Gravity Forms) or in Contact Form 7's spam log and in Flamingo (Contact Form 7): probability, category, model, route, request ID and latency. If the API cannot be reached, Formsieve fails open by default, so an outage never blocks a submission.

What you need

  • WordPress 6.5 or later, PHP 7.4 or later and Gravity Forms 2.7 or later.
  • WordPress 6.6 or later, PHP 7.4 or later and Contact Form 7 6.0 or later. Flamingo is recommended, so that blocked submissions are kept and can be restored.
  • Your own Jev API key, from TypeSafe directly, from Vercel AI Gateway or from OpenRouter (or a proxy you run). The key is not included: Jev is a paid, usage-billed API. As of 2026-09-22, TypeSafe's list price is $0.042 per million input tokens (output is free); a typical check costs about $0.00005. See Getting a key and Cost and caps.
  • Nothing else to try it: Test mode shows the whole interface working with simulated verdicts and no API calls.
