The problem
Your contact form is your sales pipeline. Bots and sales pitches clog it.
CAPTCHAs annoy real visitors. They and honeypots both miss a person pasting a pitch.
Keyword lists alone miss polite pitches and can block real enquiries.
And the real risk of any spam filter is a genuine lead that silently disappears.
How it works
1. Free checks first
Honeypot, timing, rate limit, block lists and throwaway e-mail domains run on your server. No AI check used.
2. One AI check
What passes gets one AI check with TypeSafe's Jev model. You get a spam probability and a category.
3. Three outcomes
Low-risk messages arrive as normal. Uncertain ones arrive tagged "[Possible spam 62%]". Clear spam is filed as spam.
4. You see why
Each checked submission shows its probability, category and a short reason in your WordPress admin.
5. You correct it
Mark a message "Not spam" and that sender is trusted on your site. Mark "Spam" and they are blocked.
One probability, three outcomes
Medium is the default setting: tagged from 50%, filed as spam from 85%. Low flags less, High more, and forms can override it.

Your visitors' data
- Nothing is sent until a site administrator enters a Formsieve key and gives consent.
- Sent: form fields and labels (phone numbers redacted by default), the e-mail domain, your key, site and form details, and counts like links.
- Never sent: IP addresses, full e-mail addresses, passwords, payment fields, uploads, or fields that look like health, ID or bank data.
- Thinking42 does not store the content of submissions or train AI models on it, and deletes request records after 30 days. A Data Processing Agreement is included.

FAQ
Will it block real leads?
Formsieve is built to avoid it. With the default settings, the AI check sends a message to spam only at a spam probability of 85% or more. Uncertain messages still arrive, tagged "[Possible spam 62%]". The free local checks block on fixed rules, such as a form sent in under 3 seconds or a sender on your block list. Blocked messages are kept by default: in the Gravity Forms spam folder, or in Flamingo if you use it with Contact Form 7. Mark one "Not spam" to restore it and trust the sender. No filter is perfect, so check your spam now and then.
What kinds of contact form spam does it look for?
Spam from bots, and spam that people send by hand. The free local checks, including the honeypot and the time check, are aimed at bots. The AI check reads the message itself and names a category, such as "Vendor solicitation" (sales pitches, SEO and link-building offers), "Scam or phishing" or "Abusive or harassing".
Does it replace reCAPTCHA, Turnstile or Akismet?
It can, and then your visitors never solve a puzzle. It also works alongside them. CAPTCHAs judge the visitor. Formsieve judges the message, so it can catch a pitch from a real person.
Which form plugins does it work with?
Gravity Forms 2.9+ and Contact Form 7 6.0+, on WordPress 6.6+ with PHP 7.4+. One key covers both. Contact Form 7 keeps no messages by itself, so we recommend Flamingo with it. Other form plugins are not supported (as of 2026-09-30).
How do I set it up?
It takes about five minutes. Start a free trial and install the plugin from WordPress.org. Activate it, paste your key, give consent, test the connection and describe your site. The getting started guide shows each step.
How much does it cost?
The plugin and its local checks are free. AI checks need a Formsieve key. The plan cards above show each plan's price, sites and AI checks a month. The AI is included: no account with an AI provider, and no overage bills. Not sure how many checks you need? Submissions stopped by the local checks do not count, and during the trial the dashboard shows how many your forms use.
What happens when my trial or plan ends?
Nothing is charged when the trial ends. Your key moves to the Free plan: 100 AI checks a month for one production site (as of 2026-09-29). When those are used, AI checks pause until the next month. They can also pause sooner, when the capacity shared by all Free keys is used. Subscribe any time and keep the same key. If a paid plan ends, AI checks stop until you subscribe again or, if you are eligible, choose the Free plan in your account. Either way, your forms and the free local checks keep working.
Will it slow my forms down?
Formsieve does its work when a form is sent, not while a page loads. It adds no script to your pages. On Contact Form 7 it adds only a small stylesheet, for its hidden field and the notice under forms. A submission that passes the free local checks gets at most one AI check. Formsieve waits up to 3 seconds for the answer and retries once at most. The dashboard shows how long checks take.
What if the AI service is down?
By default, your forms keep delivering. Formsieve fails open: a submission that gets no answer after one quick retry arrives with a "not checked" note. You can hold those submissions for review instead, or send them to spam during outages.
Does it work in other languages?
It checks submissions in any language. TypeSafe says its Jev model works best in English, so on non-English sites Formsieve needs a slightly higher spam probability before it tags or blocks a message. We make no accuracy claim for other languages yet.
