Envato Market updates

For buyers from CodeCanyon. Formsieve bought on CodeCanyon has no licence field and never calls our servers; updates come from Envato, either through Envato's free Envato Market plugin or by downloading the new version by hand.

Set up Envato Market

  1. Download Envato Market from https://www.envato.com/lp/market-plugin/ and install it with Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin. It must end up in a folder named exactly envato-market; otherwise it reports "Envato Market plugin is not installed correctly".
  2. Open Envato Market → Settings and create a token with the link inside that screen. It asks for exactly the permissions the plugin needs: View and search Envato sites (default), Download your purchased items (purchase:download) and List purchases you've made (purchase:list).
  3. Paste the token and save. Formsieve appears under Plugins in Envato Market.

Do not add more permissions: a token that also has Verify purchases you've made (purchase:verify), as the token link on Envato's public landing page requests, makes Envato Market show "Incorrect token permissions".

How updates arrive

  • Envato Market compares the version installed on your site with the latest version on CodeCanyon and offers the update on the normal Dashboard → Updates and Plugins screens.
  • Expect a delay. Envato Market caches its list for an hour, and Envato says a newly approved update "may take up to 24 hours" to appear.
  • Your settings, key, consent and log are kept: they live in the database, not in the plugin folder.
  • WordPress may show "Compatibility with WordPress: Not tested" for updates delivered this way; that label comes from Envato Market, which does not send a "tested up to" value.
  • The automatic-updates toggle for Formsieve appears on the Plugins screen only while an Envato update is pending, because of how Envato Market reports updates.

Updating by hand (always works)

  1. In your CodeCanyon account open Downloads, find Formsieve and choose Installable WordPress file only. You get formsieve-for-gravity-forms.zip or formsieve-for-cf7.zip.
  2. In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin and upload that zip.
  3. WordPress sees that the plugin is already installed and offers Replace current with uploaded. Confirm.

Upload the installable zip, not the "All files & documentation" package: the package contains documentation next to the plugin zip and cannot be installed as a plugin.

Troubleshooting

  • Envato Market shows "Install" for Formsieve although it is installed. Envato Market recognises a plugin by its exact name and author (Formsieve for Gravity Forms or Formsieve for CF7, by Thinking42). This happens when the plugin header was edited, or when a second copy of Formsieve sits in another folder. Remove the extra copy (keep the one in wp-content/plugins/formsieve-for-gravity-forms or wp-content/plugins/formsieve-for-cf7).
  • "Failed to locate the package file". Download the installable file from Downloads and update by hand; tell us, because it means the item is missing its installable file.
  • The update is not offered yet. Wait up to 24 hours after the release, or update by hand.
  • A notice about PHP versions below 8.2 comes from Envato Market itself (it plans to drop support for older PHP). Formsieve still supports PHP 7.4 and later.
  • Never rename the plugin folder. WordPress installs updates into the folder named in the zip; a renamed folder would leave the updated copy inactive.
